Key information for referrers

Continence medical, nursing and physiotherapy services are available at the Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

The clinicians working within the Continence Service specialise in the management of incontinence and other bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.

Please include past medical history, list of current medications and any investigations in the referral. This can assist us with confirming an appropriate diagnosis and reduce duplications of further testing.

Our treatment options include:

  • Bladder retraining
  • Pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation
  • Toileting programs
  • Defaecation training
  • Specialised investigations including video urodynamics studies
  • Advice on continence products
  • Laxative advice
  • Support, education and advice to carers

Our catchment area

Distance from Austin Health is not a barrier for clients attending centre-based services, however we encourage referral to the clients nearest service.

Current wait times

The current wait time for this service (from receipt of referral) is between:

  • 4 to 6 weeks for medical assessment
  • 6 to 8 weeks for continence nursing assessment
