Accessing patient information

We can provide patient information to external health professionals on request.

Before you request information

Before contacting Austin Health to request information, please check to see if the information is already available in the patient’s My Health Record.

We may upload inpatient discharge summaries, pathology reports, and radiology reports.

Request information from medical record

Are you the patient's nominated GP?

You must be the nominated GP as recorded in the Austin Health medical record.

If you need any Austin Health information that is not on the My Health Record system, please complete our online request form.

Your request must be in writing and on your organisation's letterhead or from the business email address.

Family Violence and Child Information Sharing Scheme requests 

Your request must be emailed to: iss@austin.org.au.

Timing

We will endeavour to send you the information within two business days of receiving your request.

If you need information earlier, help us prioritise your request by noting whether the patient is:

  • a current inpatient
  • in the Emergency Department
  • in ICU or CCU

or the time that they will be attending.

Receive clinical information via secure messaging

To receive clinical information directly into your practice software via secure messaging, you will need to:

Sign up for HealthLink

HealthLink is now the preferred way for Austin Health to send clinical information.

Register your service with the NHSD and keep all service details updated

Ensure your all your practice and contact information are up-to-date in the National Health Services Directory (NHSD). This means you will continue to receive all communications from us.

You can choose your preferred method of receiving communications via the NHSD. If you want to receive communications from us via secure messaging, you can add your HealthLink account details to your NHSD record.

To update your service details with NHSD, you can make any changes via Provider Connect Australia or by contacting the NHSD directly. 

Receive patient notifications via fax or email

Automatic patient notifications from Austin Health include:

  • admission notifications
  • discharge notifications
  • appointment notifications.

To receive patient notifications via fax or email or to change your existing notification preferences, email GPDatabase@austin.org.au.

Please include the clinic and doctor details as well as the changes required.
