Health Information Services (HIS) manages all patient-related information and data for Austin Health. 

Medical record management

We provide the following services:

• Manage scanned and historic paper-based medical records
• Manage paper and digital medical record forms
• Manage health information policies, such as patient privacy, patient registration, record access
• Produce Specialist Clinic letters and operation reports
• Manage Austin Health corporate records
• Maintain and support the entry and integrity of patient-related data on the hospitals’ systems

Information release

We provide the following services:

• Release information to external health professionals for ongoing patient care
• Release of information via the Family Violence and Child Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS/CISS)
• Access to records under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act
• Provide subpoenaed medical records to court

Clinical coding and patient data

We provide the following services:

• Code inpatient records using ICD-10-AM
• Provide casemix and DRG data to management and clinical units
• Audit casemix data
• Maintain data and reports of patient information to the Department of Health
• Report cancers to the Victorian Cancer Registry
