Our progress - Disability Action Plan

Our Disability Action Plan (DAP) is in place for four years until the end of 2026.

Below is an overview of some of the progress made over the past 6 months, January 2025 to June 2025 and some of the key priorities for the next 6 months.

Priority Area 1: Inclusive

Key actions under Priority Area 1: Inclusive are:

  • Seven current Austin Health staff have identified their disability and adjustment needs via our new recruitment software.
  • A Disability Awareness training package for staff has been approved for implementation.
  • We now have posters to support patients with vision impairment.

Priority Area 2: Accessible

Key actions under Priority Area 2: Accessible are:

  • Auslan communication packs for wards have been developed.
  • An accessible bathroom with adult-sized change table has been approved.
  • A wayfinding workgroup has been established to identify and plan for improvements.

Priority Area 3: Effective

Key actions under Priority Area 3: Effective are:

  • Patient’s responses to the disability identifier question set can now be included in a patient’s Multidisciplinary Discharge Summary (MDDS) and external referrals.
  • The NDIS Quality and Safeguard audit has been successfully completed.

Key priorities

Key priorities over the next 6 months are:

  • We will develop and promote an employment network for staff who identify as having a disability.
  • We will promote and encourage staff to update their profile on our new recruitment software.
  • We will engage a user experience design agency to manage the design phase of the website platform redesign and upgrade.
  • A patient information sheet to support patients transitioning to adult services will be published and a new process will be trialed to set up young adults for success in adult care.
