Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) positions

We are offering a range of Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) positions in 2026, including opportunities for:
  • postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) doctors
  • postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) doctors
  • postgraduate year 3 and above (PGY3 +) doctors.

PGY1 – Intern positions

We will have 65 intern positions available in 2026, allocated through the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) Optimised Matching Process.

PGY2 – HMO positions

Austin Health’s PGY2 program is aligned with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training (NFPMT).

Our PGY2 positions are structured to provide a broad-based general training year, allowing junior doctors to consolidate their clinical skills and experience before progressing to more specialised or vocational training at PGY3.

Basic Physician Training (BPT2 and BPT3+)

Our BPT2 and BPT3 positions will be filled via the BPT2 & BPT3 Match conducted through the PPMCV.

Austin Health offers HMO3 General, HMO3 Surgical and Non- Accredited General Surgical Registrar pathways. These roles are designed to provide doctors with the required rotations and clinical experience to support entry into college training programs.
