Chronic Pain Clinic

Chronic Pain Clinic

We provide multidisciplinary assessment and management for people experiencing persistent pain.

What we do

We are a specialist service for people who have persistent pain that impacts everyday activities. We work with you on strategies to reduce pain and the impact pain has on life, and help you get back to doing the things that are important to you.

We have a team of health professionals with expert knowledge and experience in pain management including Pain medicine specialists, physiotherapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists and nurses.

We provide comprehensive assessment and multidisciplinary management via group and individual programs, which may include:

  • Education programs about pain management with a focus on developing your active self-management skills
  • Medication review and consideration for procedures
  • Consideration for individual sessions with a physiotherapist and/or psychologist, and group-based hydrotherapy, gym and relaxation training.

The Chronic Pain Clinic is part of the suite of services provided by the Health Independence Program (HIP).

What to expect

For most people, the first session will be a 90-minute small group education session to learn more about persistent pain and information about the pain service.

The first individual appointment will involve a comprehensive assessment with the Pain Specialist and may include other members of the team. Further appointments will be determined depending on your needs.

What to bring

When you come to the centre for your appointment, you need to bring:

  • Medicare card
  • List of medications you are currently taking
