What we do

Our expertise is in conditions that affect your blood pressure, such as hypertension and postural hypotension. Postural hypotension is a condition that causes you to faint - it is the most common cause of fainting in the elderly.

Our patients also commonly have other conditions such as diabetes or Parkinson’s disease. We also see younger people who have problems like chronic fatigue syndrome, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

One of the services we provide is ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. This is a test that records your blood pressure over a 24-hour period while you go about your normal routine.

If you have high or low blood pressure that your doctor has found difficult to diagnose or treat, your GP may wish to refer you to one of our clinics for specialist advice and treatment.

What to expect

All blood pressure disorder clinics are run at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. Clinics run Monday to Thursday.

If you are having ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, you will have 2 appointments on consecutive days. Your first appointment will be with a nurse and the second appointment will be with a consultant. Please allow 30 mins for the 1st appointment and 1 hour for the 2nd appointment. Please wear a loose-fitting top.

What to bring

When you come to hospital for your appointment, you need to bring:

• Medicare card
• Health care card/concession card (if applicable)
• Private health insurance details (if applicable/if you want to use it)
• Adverse drug alert card (if you have one)
• X-ray films, scans, ultrasounds or any other test results or reports
• Medicines you need to take while you are here
• List of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes) including herbal supplements and vitamins
• Glasses, hearing aid, walking frame (if applicable)
• Your blood glucose meter and log book (if applicable)
