Join our Community Advisory Committee

The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) provides an important link between us and the community we serve.

About us

Our Community Advisory Committee is an advisory to the Austin Health Board. The committee provides an important link between us and the community we serve.

Who are the committee members?

The Community Advisory Committee has:

  • 8 - 12 community members
  • 4 Austin Health Board members

One Austin Board member acts as the committee chair. Three Austin Board members provide information and advice back to the Board.

The co-chair of the committee is a consumer representative.

Why do we have a committee?

The Community Advisory Committee is a formal committee of the Austin Health Board.

The committee is a group of people from the community who raise issues that are of concern to Austin Health patients and their carers.

We appoint committee members based their ability to represent a broad range of community views and interests.

What does the committee do?

The committee helps us to understand the patient, consumer, carer and community perspective of health care issues.

This assists us to integrate consumer and community views at all levels of operations, planning and evaluation.

The committee acts to advocate for the consumer perspective and stay in touch with what is important to the people who use our services.

Who can join the Community Advisory Committee (CAC)?

Everyone is welcome to join the committee.

We value contributions from people of all ages, cultures, ethnic backgrounds and abilities. This helps the committee represent the diverse community we serve. It is valuable is you have links with other community groups.

People join the committee for many reasons. Most have an interest in the way Austin Health provides health care services to its patients and their carers.

Renumeration and reimbursement

Renumeration is offered for Community Advisory Committee quarterly meetings. These payments recognise the time and contribution members bring to improving care at Austin Health.

Reimbursement may also be provided for pre‑approved out‑of‑pocket expenses related to the role, such as parking.

Payments may be considered income. You should check how this could affect your personal circumstances, including Centrelink or other financial supports.
